Why isn't the social and economic status of a writer by profession secured?

I am a writer. I write and therefore I am a freelancer as well. I write about my time’s experiences, histories, current affairs, ideologies, literature, thoughts, development, economy, philosophies, journals, blogs, books and revolution … so many to say. When I write I become activist sometimes, an economist, a socialist, a teacher, a slave, a think tank, a capitalist, communist, a rebel … sometimes as per the state of affairs I write. Precisely, when I sit to write ----- that is my life time achievement because at least I express million feelings and million voices to communicate with the past, present and the future. There are numerous reasons of writing.

And when I write and earn from my writing I receive royalties as my earning. Hence the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) as per the Income Tax Act, 2058, thereafter impose tax @ 5% of my royalty income. I contribute to the nation by paying tax as well. Yes, as mentioned earlier in paragraph, I play, analyze and scrutiny the contents/ characters that is required by nation, society and citizens; castes, cultures and creeds; languages, races and sex; representing billion souls including the dead ones.

Through writing, I send message, I question and even try to answer. I also earn goodwill, reputation, titles and critics. As taken writing as my profession, I am also unknown by people who do not read, who do not have interest on books and journals, current affairs, etc… People have multiple choices, they can switch one and jump to any other subject of interest. I am also unknown to the people uneducated. There are challenges and opportunities both; while taking writing as profession.

May be it is the reason why most of the people in Nepal do not choose writing as profession proudly, even though mass communication, journalism, economics, political science, laws, sociology and anthropology are subjects of studies available here. Bitter fact: These subjects are enrolled by fewer students each year which may be a serious disaster at times to come.

Actually, I wonder for what reason and what in actual, students study in Nepal? For money only? Big question always tickle my mind.

Again, back to the main stream of topic. Despite presumed to have reputation, recognition, and an earning, why isn’t the social and economic status of a writer by profession secured?
